Twelve Weeks | Weekly Snapshots

Well, other than the items we bought at the consignment sale, I don’t have much for weekly snapshots this time. We did find this adorable little sock monkey stuffed animal at Kohls and the best part? 100% of the profit goes to kids in need!

We also celebrated my mom’s ____th birthday with a surprise party for her! My dad took her out to dinner and when they returned home we were all there waiting. It was so much fun to do something extra special for her. Here are a couple pics from that night. PS I’ve discovered dresses with belts make my belly look a million times bigger than it really is. At least, that’s what I’m going with.

It’s been a pretty low-key couple of weeks!

Twelve Weeks | Thoughts

I can’t believe I’m nearing the end of my first trimester already. This time is really flying by and before we know it we will be holding our sweet little baby in our arms recalling and remembering my pregnancy like it was just yesterday. The leaves have changed and the world seems to know the beauty that is entering our lives with each day.

Now that I’m past the nausea and fatigue stage of the first trimester, I’m really enjoying being pregnant. I seem to be showing way earlier than most women do for their first pregnancies but I think I’m okay with that. I really didn’t like just looking like I had gained weight and couldn’t wait until I actually looked pregnant. I think that time is finally here! I often find myself rubbing my belly even though baby is so low and small I don’t know if he/she can feel anything yet.

Josh and I went to a baby/children’s consignment sale here in town and purchased some gently used practically new items for the little one. I looked up the items we bought online brand new and we saved over $500 buying them used! Definitely the way to go and we chose all gender neutral items so we can be sure to use them for our next baby, too, in a few years. We also ordered the crib and a nice glider for the nursery and I am so looking forward to seeing them all set up in there. I can’t do too much else to the nursery until we know the gender… minus curtains and storage solutions.┬áIt is so funny to me the gender guessing that is going on from everyone. I don’t have any feelings one way or another but Josh is thinking it’s a girl. The rest of our friends/family are split about 50-50. We should be able to find out early December and I can’t wait to know!

And, oh my gosh, the books…. don’t get me started on the books! I have so many to read through, most of them I bought secondhand or off Amazon for cheap, and some were lent to me from friends or family, which is awesome! I just have this feeling I’m going to be one of those pregnant woman that has stacks of books throughout the house about pregnancy, birth/labor, and parenthood but really only reads maybe two of them. We plan on taking a seven-week birthing class from our doula to prepare us for the labor and delivery and as far as parenting goes, a big part of me wants to just experience it for ourselves. If we run into issues or problems, sure I’ll look things up and research solutions, but until then I think I’d rather just relax and enjoy this special time. And for the record, “Belly Laughs” by Jenny McCarthy is my least favorite pregnancy book of all time. Seriously, I couldn’t even finish it. Save your money and buy yourself a donut or something. You’ll thank me once the sugar-high hits.

We are both looking forward to our next doctor’s appointment as we get to hear the heartbeat for the first time and definitely looking forward to the next ultrasound even more! I wish I could just flip on the tv and see our baby anytime I wanted. One can dream, right?
